Born from a deep commitment to transforming trauma recovery, Rock Pool CIC was founded in 2016 to expand on the pioneering work of Sue Penna. With a background in occupational therapy and psychotherapy, Sue had spent 17 years specialising in working with adults who had experienced developmental and childhood sexual trauma. After leaving the NHS in 2003, Sue became a passionate advocate for domestic abuse survivors, driven by her own experience in a coercive relationship. Realising the need for a comprehensive trauma-informed programme, she created the groundbreaking Recovery Toolkit. Sue’s programme, first piloted with 70 women, proved transformative. As demand grew, so did the need to scale her impact, leading to the creation of Rock Pool CIC.
Today, Rock Pool is one of the UK’s leading trauma-informed training organisations, made up of a group of highly-experienced facilitators, who are passionate about upskilling front-line workers. Offering a range of innovative, practical solutions-based training and programmes addressing domestic abuse ,developmental trauma and sexual violence, we are empowering thousands to reclaim their lives. Our mission is to develop a society that is trauma-informed and support organisations that want to improve practice, grow expertise, and enable their workforce to inspire hope, promote resilience and aid recovery for people affected by trauma.
Clients have told us that our superpower is taking complex issues and breaking them down into digestible learning. When people leave our training, they are able to implement the skills and knowledge immediately, whether that be delivering a toolkit or adopting a trauma aware approach.
We invite you to join the movement for change to create a more trauma-informed world.
